You set the price. We take 10% from each side.
There are no subscriptions, no minimums and no charge to post. The number you type is the job price. The homeowner pays it plus 10%, and the worker receives it minus 10%. That 20% is how YardHound pays for screening, payments, support and the app.
Examples
Prices are set by the homeowner, or by the worker's bid when the homeowner asks for bids. These are examples, not our prices.
| Job | Job price | Homeowner pays | Worker receives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shovel a driveway and front walk | $15.00 | $16.50 | $13.50 |
| Mow and edge a small front lawn | $25.00 | $27.50 | $22.50 |
| Rake and bag leaves, front and back | $40.00 | $44.00 | $36.00 |
| Fall cleanup, beds and lawn, half a day | $80.00 | $88.00 | $72.00 |
When you're charged
Your card is charged when you pick a worker, not when you post. Posting and taking bids are free.
Held until you approve
The payment is held while the work happens. It's released to the worker when you approve, or automatically 72 hours after they mark the job done.
Tips
Tip after you approve, if you want to. 100% of a tip goes to the worker, and we cover the card fee on it.
Washington treats most lawn and landscape maintenance as a taxable retail service. If sales tax applies to your job, it appears as its own line, at your address's local rate, before you pay.
If plans change
Every outcome is set in advance, and the app shows you the exact amounts before you tap Cancel. Here's a $40 job, where the homeowner paid $44.
| What happened | Worker receives | Homeowner refund |
|---|---|---|
| Completed and approved | $36.00 | $0 |
| Homeowner cancels before the worker checks in | $0 | $42.68 |
| Worker doesn't show up Scheduled time passes with no check-in | $0 | $44.00 |
| Homeowner cancels after check-in, or the worker can't start Locked gate, loose dog, nobody home when needed. Worker keeps 25% | $9.00 | $32.01 |
| Homeowner cancels after the work has started | $36.00 | $0 |
| Worker stops early, or a dispute is split A person reviews the photos and sets the share in 10% steps | Share of $36 | The rest |
Refunds keep 3% of the refunded amount to cover card processing fees we can't get back, except when a worker doesn't show up, which is refunded in full. Refunds reach your card in 5 to 10 business days. The full rules are in Refunds and cancellations.
Verification fee
Background checks cost money to run. Here's who pays and how you get it back.
Homeowners and adult workers: $13, once
Charged one time, when your ID check is complete and your background check starts. Homeowners pay it on their card. Adult workers have it taken from their first payout, so it's never out of pocket.
You get it back as a $13 credit on your second job, used automatically within 120 days. If your check is denied, the fee is refunded.
Teens and parents: free
Workers 14 to 17 aren't background-checked and pay no fee. Parents and guardians verify their ID when they link to their teen, and pay nothing for it.
Workers can choose an instant payout to a debit card for a 1.5% fee. Standard payouts are free.
